Environmental Construction Products

Trends in sustainable and environmentally friendly construction continue to inch towards the mainstream, with new products being introduced almost daily that are more cost effective and efficient than ever. Here are some products and trends in environmental construction:

Walls

Use of alternative building materials, including reclaimed woods, recycled metals and non toxic materials are making homes more green from the inside out. Even insulation is becoming more green, with wider usage of a mixture of recycled cotton and denim materials instead of toxic and dangerous to install traditional insulation.

Flooring

There's a wide range of environmentally friendly flooring options. From concrete to stones, recycled metals, recycled tiles, recycled glass, reclaimed woods, sustainable woods, bamboo, cork and even more environmentally friendly linoleums.

Paints and Finishes

There is now a large amount of paints and stains available for your interiors, including walls, floors, bathrooms, staircases and all your surfaces. These new products are either non-toxic or use much less toxic chemicals, making the eco-friendly choice also the most healthy choice for environmentally sensitive people. In addition, these less toxic paints and finishes are much easier to dispose of.

Carpeting

Traditional new carpeting uses a lot of chemicals to produce. In addition, the installation of new carpeting will typically fill the indoor air in your home with what are called "VOC's" or volatile organic compounds. These compounds include chemical carcinogens like benzenes and even formaldehyde. That new carpet smell is actually a cocktail of chemicals you are breathing. These chemicals can take several years to dissipate from your indoor air. By using eco-friendly carpeting, you are eliminating or severely decreasing the amount of chemicals you are bringing into your home. Also, the materials used in eco-friendly carpeting are typically recycled or sustainable. Most carpets need padding and these too can be loaded with chemicals. Instead, homeowners can choose new environmentally friendly carpet padding that is made from recycled cotton.

Cabinetry and Countertops

Even kitchen and bathroom cabinetry and countertops can be eco-friendly. New cabinet options include cabinets made from completely sustainable woods using non-toxic finishes. For countertops, new non-toxic composite materials including quartz and recycled glass chips are available. Even the glue used to adhere the cabinets to the countertop can be an eco-friendly water based glue product.

Whether you are building a new home, remodeling or simply performing some upgrades, you won't want to ignore the many eco-friendly options.

Ask Yourself Some Simple Questions About Religion

Most of us are raised from children into adulthood, to believe in someone else's religion. Most of us never even got the chance to choose a religion or spiritual beliefs to follow on our own. I came up with a simple list of five things that you should know about your religion, or you shouldn't be allowed to practice it.

1. Where did your religion or spiritual beliefs originate from? You should find out who started your religion and why they started it. Some of the worlds major religions were started by intelligent people. Do you think it's possible that your religion was created by an intelligent person, instead of a supreme being or multiple gods. Someone's just trying to trick you into believing.

2. How did you get involved in your religion or spiritual beliefs? Was it part of your upbringing, did your parents suggest this religion to you, how long has your family been involved in your current religious beliefs. Was your great, great, great, great, great grandfather or grandmother part of this religion or spiritual belief. How far back does it go in your family?

3. Do you believe in your religious doctrine or scripture? Is there any parts of your religious scriptures, writings or communication from other fellow believers that doesn't sit right with you? Does every part of your religion makes sense and can it be explained sensibly to someone outside of your religion?

4. Do you practice what you believe on a daily basis? If you're supposed to read your scriptures or pray daily, do you? If your religion teaches love and compassion, how do you treat people less fortunate than yourselves? Are you one of those people who can justify your wrong doings, to yourself and others, to give them the illusion, that you are a religious or spiritual person.

5. Do you know where you are going after you die? Are you going to someplace wonderful and extraordinary, like heaven? If you had to earn enough credits or points, do you think you have acquired enough, to enter the next level of existence? If you're bad, are you going to a bad place, with all the other bad people?

Try to always keep one thing in mind do you use, religion and responsibly.

These are just some of the answers, that I sincerely believe most people should know about their religion or beliefs. You should be able to answer at least one of these questions if asked by a nonbeliever.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Solar Power

Solar power is starting to go main stream. While this technology has been around for some time, many people are just starting to learn about alternative fuels such as these. They have been getting a lot of buzz because of high oil costs. The inability to afford rising fuel costs, have forced some individuals to think of new ways to run their homes. One way is to use energy from the sun. There are advantages and disadvantages of solar power. Let's discuss the advantages first.

There are many well noted benefits of sun energy. The ones that are most often discussed include cheaper energy costs, clean fuel and less dependence on oil.

In recent years, utility bills have gone through the roof in many parts of the world. Oil prices are skyrocketing and global supplies are diminishing. This trend is not going to cease worsening. Some people have been unable to pay their bills, while others have had to cut back drastically in other areas of their life affecting their lifestyles to a great measure. There have been many families who have had to go without heat simply because they could not come up with the money to pay their utility bills. Because the sun is a free fuel source, it is now possible for us to cut back on costs.

Sun energy is also good for the planet. It does not emit any harmful gases. It also makes people who use it less dependent on oil. Their monetary outlays are also not dependent on oil prices.

As noted earlier, there are advantages and disadvantages of solar power. We have already discussed the advantages, now let's discuss the disadvantages.

The biggest disadvantage of tapping on sunlight as a fuel source is the high cost of purchasing the panels and then having them installed. Thankfully, there are online guides that will give step-by-step instructions to build and install your own. For around $200 worth of materials, you can do everything yourself.

As you can see, there are both advantages and disadvantages of solar power. Sun power can replace oil based fuel. As a result, an individual can save money and do something good for the environment. The main disadvantage of using sunlight to provide energy is that it can be costly if you pay someone to install such a system for you. However, you can save a ton of money if you create and install the solar panels yourself.

Wine Tasting Party

Do you have to be a sommelier to know something about wine? Well, if you want to tout yourself as an expert, perhaps but if you just want to enjoy a good glass of wine, go with your gut - or rather your mouth - and enjoy what tastes good to you. So, why not host a wine tasting party? Now before you hit the panic button, get uptight and claim to know nothing about wine, stop! We aren't proposing you sit around discussing bouquet and barrel fermenting. We want you to have a little fun.

You can buy wine tasting party kits from various sources on the internet and local shops. Don't want a kit? Here's what you need:

  • Guests - think about whom you know that likes and drinks wine and keep the numbers small
  • A few bottles of wine that you think you might like - both red and white. Depending on the size of the crowd plan on 2 bottles of each type. Or for an added twist, ask your guests to each bring 2 bottles of their favorite wine. If you do this you will need them to email or phone you with the wine information ahead of time.
  • Printed wine tasting cards that list the wines you purchased with some information from the bottle
  • Pencils in case guests want to make notes about their favorites
  • Wine glasses. We recommend 2 per person. One for tasting and one for later
  • Plain saltine or oyster crackers for guests to cleanse their palates
  • Still (plain) water for rinsing
  • Some good music, good conversationalists and a sense of fun!

If you want to add an extra flare to the party, why not serve a variety of champagnes instead. Have friends bring cava, prosecco, sparkling wine and champagne instead of a red or white wine.

At the end of the event, serve some crackers/bread, cheese and fruit or some other small/light appetizers and offer each guest a glass of his/her favorite wine. Wine charms are a fun thing to introduce at this point. Each person can pick her/her own and attach to the glass. Put on some music and enjoy the company. However, above all things, drink and serve responsibly!

Boomer Dating - Is There Room for Two in Your Christmas Stocking?

You may say you want to find love, but do you have room in your life for someone else? There are some simple things to look at which reveal your emotional state as open and ready or not quite there yet.

1) Do you have a night table on both sides of your bed?

Sounds like a silly question and rather simplistic, but this is a Feng Shui indicator of balance. You need two night stands for a balanced relationship and to demonstrate that you subconsciously think about two versus one. The symbolism of how you decorate your home cannot go unnoticed.

Same thing goes for art work. If you have a number of pieces of art that feature a single woman, that's how you view yourself. If you want to change the energy, make sure you move these pieces out of your bedroom. And you may want to replace some with art that has couple energy - anything that depicts two people, two boats, two birds, etc. will do.

2) Is your calendar so jammed that you say things like, "I don't have time to date?"

Well that's a tell tale tip off of how you look at your life. If you don't have time to date, you might not have time for another person, nor really want another anyone else to take up your time. And that's OK - it's certainly your choice. But something to become aware of.

3) Do you worry a love interest would rob you of your freedom?

For many women who have won their freedom after divorce, or who are fiercely independent, this can be a deep concern. And a sign that you value your freedom more than a relationship. That's your choice too.

Yet, if you do desire a loving partnership, you may have to do some work to find a new perspective - that you can in fact, be in love and maintain a very healthy amount of freedom. It's totally possible.

Here's one symbolic move for love you can make this Christmas

Hang up an extra Christmas stocking. This is your stocking of expectation that love will come into your life within the next year (less or more - whatever your desire.) Then, put a few things in it to take this intention one step further. Maybe some chocolate, socks with hearts on them, a juicy romance novel, a romantic chic flick with a happy ending, lip balm to keep your lips kissable. You get the idea.

Don't over fill it with your new found exuberance. Leave room for something fun and unexpected.

Now of course the likelihood that the man of your dreams will follow Santa down the chimney are quite slim. The purpose of this exercise is to start building the energy and your belief system for love. Send a message to the Universe (and Santa) "There is room for love at my hearth and in my heart." Use this like an affirmation or mantra. Making room and creating this shift will take some effort on your part, but if love is your heart's desire - it's worth it.

Feng Shui For Your Child's Bedroom

As a parent you can use Feng Shui principles to make the energy in your child's room supportive for their growth and development. You can also create a bedroom that promotes a restful sleep each night.

The bed should be positioned so that the head points toward the door, but not directly in line with the door. This position will make your child feel in control and sleep well at night. Try to avoid positioning the bed directly under a window. Some children feel uncomfortable sleeping this way thinking that an intruder may enter their room.

It's important to paint a color on the walls of your child's bedroom. Have her be a part of the decision making when it comes to choosing a color. It's best to pick a color that's not too bright. Since red is a fire color and creates a very active environment avoid using this color. Stick with soft pastels such as greens, blues or pinks.

Choose artwork carefully. Remember that what's hanging on the walls influences your child on a subconscious level. Keeping a photo of mom and dad in the room will help your child feel secure about sleeping alone. If they have posters of people hanging on their walls, make sure that they're positive role models.

It's a challenge to create a playful atmosphere during the day and a relaxing one at night. Ideally the bedroom should be used only for sleeping, resting and relaxing. If you don't have the luxury of a separate playroom make sure the toys are put away at night.

Applying the principles of Feng Shui in your child's bedroom can enhance her mindset, well-being and overall health.

Hope in All Religions

I was reading a book on advertising when the author mentioned, "All Advertising Is about Hope."

This got me thinking about other people's dreams and aspirations, most of this is wrapped around them hoping to accomplish something or do something. I never gave it much thought but hope is one of the most important things in our lives. Some people go around hoping that they will keep their job, when the economy is in bad shape. Others go around hoping for forgiveness for their sins or other bad deeds they have done in the past.

What is it you're hoping for? There's got to be something. Are you hoping to become a multimillionaire or even the world's first trillionaire. Are your dreams big or small? Are you the kind of person who is happy living a simple life with very little possessions like a Buddhist monk or are you one who is seeking the lifestyle of the King.

Hope supplies us with the will to continue through hopeless obstacles during our lifetime.

Most people seeking hope are looking for a way out of something or a way toward a better life. These people often fall easy prey to large religious organizations, as they take them under their wing and slowly start to brainwash them. They seek the weak minded, helpless, poor and trusting people and build their organizations using them. I once believed in Christianity, but it no longer offers me true hope, the more I study Christianity and other organized religions, I noticed certain similarities based on inspiration.

I hope I live the good life, so I can go to heaven, the promised land, our ultimate enlightenment.

I hope I am living the true will according to God, Buddha, Krishna or other supreme beings.

I hope that the Bible is wrong about the 144,000 people from the 12 tribes.

I hope I'm living a life that is pleasing to the Lord.

If you're part of an organized religion, ask your religious leaders, any questions that you have about your religion. If they can't answer these questions, try to find them on your own. Books, videos, and the Internet are great sources for information. If you're living your life for the sole purpose of going to heaven one day, you could be disappointed, when that day arrives.

Ask a couple of questions and I hope you will get honest answers to them.

Nurture Your SoulCreate Peace of Mind

The majority of people believe humans have a soul. There is significant controversy, however, on the souls impact or whether as humans we impact the souls growth or lack there of. Those who practice spirituality believe we are human beings having a spiritual experience and we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Such movies as: Ghost, Sixth Sense, What The Bleep Do We Know?, City of Angels and others illuminate this belief.

Nurturing the soul is as important as healthy nutrition, exercising and sleep. The souls sole purpose is to create spiritual/emotional growth. The sense of well-being and happiness emanates from the soul to the psyche. If the soul is ignored or malnourished the psyche and ultimately the body suffers.

The most effective way to nurture the soul is through spirituality. Spirituality is the God-related science of developing and freeing the God-made innermost beingthe core of usMade in the image of God." Love creates, all else destroys. Love cannot co-exist with other premises simultaneously; therefore, God is only love. The fly in the ointment of human existence verses in spiritual formas Godis the "ego. The ego is essential to navigate the vicissitudes in physical life. However, the ego is what gets us into trouble. The truth is: All life on earth serves the sole purpose of developing our spirituality to the point of being free of spiritual ignorance, free of selfish or destructive behavioral (ego) patterns, free to return to our eternal home in God. True spirituality leads to freedom in God.

True God-related spirituality is achieved by means of scientifically applying spiritual teachings and spiritual techniques that fosters the ego to vanish in the fire of divine love and ego-oriented spirita.k.a. intellectto be replaced by the Holy Spirit. Such true spiritual teachings can only be affected by a true connection to our innermost self. Because all humankind is God-made, Spirituality is our true nature and spiritual development is the most direct way to solutions of love and peace in all creation.
Prayer, Meditation, Gratitude, Spending time in natureincluding near fire and water are practices to create spiritual/emotional health.

Prayer: Researcher and mind/body medicine expert Herbert Benson, M.D. found that regular prayer or the repetition of spiritual phrases such as "Shalom," or "Hail Mary," triggers relaxation and reduces stress. Make prayer a time of personal conversation with God, state your need or concern and ask for divine intervention. Acknowledge all you have to be grateful for and give thanks for that which you desire. Giving thanks is more effective than asking for what you desire. God knows what you need before you need it and has already sent it to youtherefore giving thanks acknowledges what you havent seen yet. Establishing a regular prayerful routine is important.

Meditation: Researched for centuries, meditation is proven to have physiological benefits, including stress-relief, improved immune and cardiovascular function, relaxation, and decreased pain. Regular meditation practice leads to new insights about life issues (often resulting in the healing of past emotional trauma), heightened creativity, inspiration, greater compassion for others, and a greater connection to one's own inner guidance. There are a plethora of books and classes on meditation practices.

Gratitude: The state of being grateful; thankfulness. (The American Heritage Dictionary) In the push and pulls of life we seldom realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich. Looking at the glass as half empty albeit is half full assures us, we will live with a sense of lack.

"Gratitude is our most direct line to God and the angels. If we take the time, no matter how crazy and troubled we feel, we can find something to be thankful for. The more we seek gratitude, the more reason the angels will give us for gratitude and joy to exist in our lives." --Terry Lynn Taylor

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow." --Melody Beattie

Time in nature: The most visible manifestation of spirit is nature, where we most fully encounter and interact with life's primal energies in the forms of earth, water, fire, and air. Walking/hiking are easy and practical ways of reconnecting with nature and the earth, as are gardening, biking, camping and boating. Spending regular amounts of time outdoors within a natural setting, you enable yourself to better appreciate the rhythms of life, including your own.

Modern living prevents us from a balanced life. Time in nature restores that balance, while also deepening our connection with Spirit. Being near the water is a spiritually healthy experience, due to water's higher concentration of negative ions. Swimming in natural water or soaking in a mineral hot spring provides therapeutic benefits for a variety of ailments.

Exposure to a campfire or fireplace has health benefits. Leonard Orr discovered that fire cleanses the bio-energy field of negative energies, and is a powerful aid in curing physical disease. Orr recommends spending a few hours each day near fire. Fire is also an important component of the vision quests Native Americans undertake to connect with the Great Spirit and discover their life purpose.

Air is the closest expression of Spirit. Clean air is essential to health on all levels, and practicing conscious breathing is a potent self-care method for restoring energy and making you more aware of the power of Spirit as it flows through you.

Regular exposure to the four elements creates consciousness of Spirit's loving intelligence to sustain the world, while more deeply recognizing our place within it.

Given busy lives in todays world there are several techniques to use until one can engage with the four elements. The following techniques relax, revitalize and remove blocked energy.

Craniosacral TreatmentRelieves blockages caused by stress in the craniosacral system. Discovered by Dr. John Upledger in 1980, this system includes the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.

Reiki Chakra TreatmentJapanese spiritual healing technique, energy is channeled from master to student, cleansing the bodys chakrasspecific energy modes inside the body. Creates reduced stress and a stronger bridge to your inner being.

The Sound of Peaceful Healinga 120-minute sensory journey that uses sound, touch and smell to revive the senses and restore a feeling of calm.

Massage: Acupressurebased on acupuncture without needles, Deep Tissue, Reflexology, Swedish, Shiatsu, Aquatic Shiatsu,Trigger Point/Myotherapy, Rolfing.

Engaging in one or more of the soul nourishing activitiesPrayer, Meditation, Gratitude, Spending time in nature, including near fire and waterdaily will create soul/spiritual/ emotional health and you will enjoy a highly enriched and enriching life.

What About The End The End Of The World

Changing Your Thinking

Understanding the God Consciousness Gestalt and Evolution of the Soul

Two words we will be using often in this discussion are (Hierarchy and Gestalt). For our purposes, Hierarchy will mean the stratified organization and layering of consciousness based on it's abilities, maturity and development. Gestalt will mean an organized and united whole that equals more than the sum of it's parts, and cannot be defined by knowing and categorizing the totality of it's components. When we think of consciousness in light of what we know and see in our everyday activities, we are presented with evidence that some living forms seem to possess more developed abilities than others.

This leads us to the assumption that we are the living epitome of consciousness expressed in human form. We assume that we are the top of the pile of living consciousness, with all other living forms below us. Of course, the word "living" itself is arbitrary, as we all tend to draw our own line of demarcation between what is "alive" and what is not alive. We attribute consciousness to things that are alive, that move, that think, reason, etc. In other words we like to consider ourselves and some animals as possessing consciousness.

If we were able to trace the evidence of consciousness downward on the scale of "living things" we would be amazed to learn that birds, insects, flowers, grass, bacteria and even the cells that compose the human body have their own and value oriented type of consciousness. Their consciousness is not equal in egotistical development as ours, but it is not less in quality, it simply has not developed in the same way as our reasoning mind consciousness. The natural instinctive consciousness of the animals serves them well for their necessary interaction with nature and the environment. We humans are part of a beautiful tapestry of consciousness composing a system of reality rising out of need and developed with a purpose. All consciousness contained within our realty has it's purpose and that purpose is to BE. What we don't understand as yet is that EVERYTHING possesses it's own type of consciousness.

Consciousness is even somewhat aware of itself in the ubiquitous electron, the atom, and even the cells and molecules are aware of their motion within a life form. The American Indian knew only a few hundred short years ago, that there is consciousness in the tree, the rock, the river and mountains. It is rather easy to accept this premise in light of other spiritual enigmas that confound us. Unfortunately with the evolution of our precise physical manipulation in a three dimensional reality, it became necessary for us to focus intently on physical performance of the biological form and we lost some of the intuitive truths that were inherently ours from the beginning. These truths are not lost, they just became buried deep within our psyche waiting to be activated again, to bring about the natural blending of the physical reasoning mind and the inner knowledge that still awaits activation.

So if we were to attempt to stratify and categorize consciousness, we would probably put ourselves near to top of the ladder with a huge gap between ourselves and God. Why would we assume that there are unending gradations of consciousness below ours but seemingly none above ours until you reached that ultimate "God Reality"?

The truth is that there are countless gradations of conscious entities above us of such psychic sophistication that we could only contemplate them as godlike psychological structures and their reality would not be translatable in words. There exist countless very mature, sophisticated entities that we cannot perceive and never will be able to perceive. These are the entities, some of which have experienced Earth reality at sometime in the distant path, have evolved through Earth reality and gone on to other more challenging worlds. Because we cannot perceive these entities with our Earth tuned senses does not mean they do not exist. They exist more assuredly than you or I do in an actuality that is so evolved that even if I were able to explain it, you could not understand. To these "super entities" Earth reality was once their kindergarten just as it is now ours. Earth is the beginning playground for new consciousness. We are here to learn, create, experience, yes, make mistakes for sure, but to learn from our mistakes and create again and again, improving all the while.

Now finally, there is therefore a PYRAMID GESTALT of consciousness with newer consciousness on the lower levels, evolving and moving upward within the pyramid structure as they progress. Of course the very top of the pyramid is ALL THAT IS (GOD). This Prime Being is composed of all consciousness below on the pyramid structure. Conversely speaking if we were to carry that thought to it's logical conclusion, in some very real way, your existence NOW on the lower levels of the psychological pyramid structure speaks of your very real connection with Top of the pyramid. Everything is connected and part of another everything.

Everything is part of something else. Nothing in the Universe stands alone. You are a part of this Pyramid Gestalt, this Hierarchy of consciousness that and between you and All That Is are unimaginable sophistication that you can hardly envision. The fact that you are part of countless entities above and below you as they are part of entities above and below them. "I use the term above and below, when the meaning is more advanced in consciousness development". I am saying that within this Hierarchy, you are part of something else, that is itself part of something else and so on forever. In entity development there is no better or best, there is just more advanced, mature, developed, but all are of the same quality, as they came from the same Source.

This kind of psychic oneness should not in the least bother you or make you in any way feel insignificant. It is quite like the following analogy. You live within your family at the same time you live within your city or county. You also live within your country and live on your continent and there is no contradiction, no jealousy of one above the other even though you are part of all simultaneously. The entity of which you are a part, scarcely notices you, but it's development depends on the structures upon which it rests and give it strength. You are a part of grander entities, and you don't even notice it. You are evolving in that direction yourself, and as your position on this pyramid of consciousness increases in depth and awareness, so will it increase maturity and psychic sophistication.

If you have been anxiously awaiting your unification with God, forget it. You are already as closely connected as you will ever be. As you increase and become more, All That Is increases multitudinous amounts multiplied by the number of all consciousness on this earth. From this you can see that as you increase, All That Is increases exponentially. As an example, as you progress an inch, All That Is progresses a million miles in terms of distance as an analogy. All That Is experiences through all entities beneath itself including you, as you to are also an entity of considerable worth and always becoming more. All That Is doubles itself in nanoseconds. So as there are countless layers of consciousness below yours, there are more above yours also. There is no huge gap between yourself and God and there are others that have gone before you. The more sophisticated and evolved the entity, the more entities involved with it and a part of it.

An entity can perceive dimensions of reality that are not yet as not as developed as it's own, but cannot perceive dimensions that are more evolved.

The Ovum Factor

The Ovum Factor by Marvin L. Zimmerman is one of the best intrigue novels I have read in some time. There were several aspects that stood out for me with this book. Marvin is able to bring several environmental, moral and ethical issues to the reader. He is also able to show us a little of an insider's view into the corporate world. His passion for the planet is so well interwoven into the story's plot that readers will find themselves tense and wanting to read more. Another interesting aspect of the book is that Marvin also shows us the importance of Indigenous knowledge and the dangers of eradicating life-systems.

The lead character is David Rose who becomes involved with a Nobel Prize winning professor, Charles MacMillan. Charles is driven by a traumatic event from his youth and this passion has helped discover one possible thread of hope for man and the destruction of Earth. Early on in this tale readers are introduced to controversial subjects from genetic manipulation to social ethics. David, however, has no idea of the role that religious leaders going back in time have played in keeping this knowledge from reaching the public. In his ignorance Cardinal Cardoso sends a reformed assassin, Dario Santini, to stop Professor MacMillan's project. A romance develops between David and Professor MacMillan's assistant, Emily Chang - a woman with a troubled past and who has a hidden agenda of her own. David soon finds himself trekking through the Amazon forest in search of a plant that may no longer exist due to vast abuse to the land. His guide, Galileo is also far from what he seems at first and David becomes more than a little reliant on this man.

The Ovum Factor is a sad, gripping, emotionally charged book that is both realistic and intelligently written. Action, legends, adventure, romance and travel are all here. I truly enjoyed the author's style and the simple way he blends fact and fiction. Readers are shown comparisons between modern society and the indigenous peoples and the effect our society has on theirs.

I also enjoyed the concept of fate and the interconnected web of life. We see characters finding purpose in life, and pursuing it. The plight of the planet and the loss of life described in this book may help some readers feel inspired to become proactive in life. I believe that the main message of The Ovum Factor is that there is a potential hero in each one of us.

Marvin Zimmerman has been the publisher and editor of INMR Quarterly Review, focusing on electrical energy, for more than 15 years. His work as a consultant for business and marketing strategy and as an instructor of international business at two of Canada's largest universities must have played a role in the accurate corporate world we see in The Ovum Factor. Mr. Zimmerman is a life-long environmentalist and, interestingly, wrote most of the book on location.

Rating 5 out of 5 stars.

Is 2012 Really the End of the World?

Maybe just the end of the world as we know it. No, the world is not going to implode or explode or be completely destroyed in any form for that matter. 2012 is a new beginning, not an end.

There has been so much said about all this, from the bible, from Nostradamus, from Edgar Cayce, from the Mayans. In 2012 we will truly be able to experience heaven on earth. For some, this has already started. We are already feeling these changes. There are many people on this earth who have Ascended from the 3D reality to the 5th Dimension reality already. The Earth herself has ascended from 3D to 5D. In 5D time and space are different, they do not exist in the same way as they do in 3D. This is why so many people are having experiences outside what the "norm" has been the past few thousand years.

Some people think the financial meltdowns etc. are really bad news. It is just a change, different things going on, it doesn't have to be bad news. Everything is perception. A lot of people are being forced to change the way they have been thinking, or the way they have been doing things. So much of the world's issues right now are related to the old 3D ways crumbling. It is a new beginning, not an ending.

Jesus (or whatever Ascended Master you relate to based on your religion or lack thereof), IS coming. It is the Christ Consciousness in us all. Jesus "the man" is not going to just show up one day to save us. Its not quite like that. The consciousness of Jesus will show up for us all as soon as we realize that we have access to it. It is your own greatness, your own Christ Consciousness that will save you. Your realization that you are God. We ourselves are the second coming.

What makes things so hard is the separation from the divine light and love of all that is. For many years people have turned to religion, or leaders that tell us that things are outside of ourselves. Those in perceived power don't want us to know that the power of EVERYTHING is within us. We are all one.

The talk of hellfire and hell coming to earth for those that do not accept Jesus into their lives is true in some ways, but not in the literal sense that some organized religions would have you believe. It has to do with those that accept they are the creators themselves. Those that can see and feel their own greatness will truly be creating a heaven on earth for themselves and those around them.

Those that rely on (or "worship"), things from the 3D reality -- money and ego and external power -- truly will be in a hell on earth. Earth and her energy is changing, has already changed. We, as a species, are learning that we can create whatever we want here. It has very little to do with ego and power. There are many on the earth right now who are here to help with this transition. Many lightworkers who are ascending and "getting it" are here to help you. Many are actually devoting their lives to helping others remember where they came from and what divine beings they are. The first wave of Ascension is over. There are many Masters on this plane of our planet right now. Willing to help you to realize you don't have to stay stuck in 3D any more. Many people think Jesus is a saviour, as in separate from you, that will come and rescue you from your life, your existence, yourself, your perceived sins. God is not going to "make people go to hell". What kind of loving God would actually make people go to hell? If all one does is worship money, control or power they WILL likely end up in their own hell. This will be their own doing (or undoing) though. It will not be something that is done TO them.

Look at how things are right now. The world financial crisis is HUGE. Anyone who is very centred in, or worships, money or power at this point in time is RIGHT NOW in their own personal HELL. God certainly isn't putting them there. It is their perception of their time on earth that is putting them there.

Those that are suffering right now just need to look inside themselves, at the Christ Consciousness, at the God in THEM. Hanging onto the old 3D reality and the worship of external things like money or power or ego is what is causing them suffering. The always wanting more is causing suffering. There is enough on this earth for everyone. Some say they don't believe that...I've had people tell me to my face that I'm full of you know what just for suggesting such a thing.

The reality of it though....at least MY reality of it is that there is enough for all. If we take the greed, the control, the lusting for external power away, there is enough.

All through the bible it states that God is in all of us. Therefore, Love is in all of us.

Religions made the devil up to scare the heck out of people. There were, and still are, those that do not want you to know your own greatness. They don't want you to know what they know. If everyone knew, there would be balance. No one would be better than, or richer than. Everyone would just "Be".

Religions say the devil "fell from grace" because he wanted to be God-like. What better way to make people shun their own greatness, their own connection with God. Scare the crap out of them so that when they start to realize their own greatness, and that they are not just a "part of Source (God)", but that they are indeed Source (God) themselves, the creators of their own lives and spiritual journeys, they get afraid and experience more separation. As soon as people realize their greatness, no one will be able to control them. That is very scary for those that think they have the power over the masses.

We are all God-like. We are all creators, God is Love, we are all a part of God. This scares a lot of people and there are certain governments and religions that don't want people to know this, so they make up stuff like the devil or demons to scare people. They don't want the general population to realize their power, they would lose their own place in society; in the 3D reality they have created for themselves. Imagine if everyone knew just how much like God we are, how much a part of God we are.....no one could control us anymore. No one would have the power to "make" us fearful. God is Love.....the "devil" is fear.

So, is 2012 the end of the world? I certainly hope it is the end of the world as we have known it up to this point.

Do not fear the changes, embrace them. Connect with Source in your own way. Find and connect with your own internal Christ Consciousness, your own greatness.

When things are done with Love and not fear, nothing but God and Love can shine through.

There are many things going on. Being a psychic lightworker myself (for lack of a better term), I know that what I see and do, anyone can see and do. The biggest challenge is to KNOW that you can do it. It is just a matter of being open to it and having the realization that we are all Source.

Remember where you came from, remember your divinity. Connect with your own Christ Consciousness. Experience the bliss every day, feel the love every day. Live with Love not Fear of what is going on on our earth. Its all good...

Never Let Anyone Get Your Goat

Stay Happy, never let anyone get your goat.
Whether phrased as "push your buttons," "get your goat," "get you riled up," or "annoy you," it's no fun to be on the receiving end. How to cope?

1. Don't take it personally. Even when someone criticizes your actions or demeans your very nature, know that they are merely directing their inner turmoil in your direction. Someone else's opinion of you is mostly irrelevant, and basically none of your business. Don't assume that there is any validity to an accusation. Perhaps there is a valuable lesson buried inside the unkindness that merits objective consideration, but negative emotions are best quickly discarded.

2. Look to the positive people in your life for support. If you balance many positive and supportive friends against one or two negative influences, it is much easier to cope. If you don't currently have enough positive people in your life, begin a focused effort to add positive people to your inner circle. If you don't have personal connections, search for groups of positive people at MeetUp.com.

3. Remove negative people from your life. Yes you can, even if it's your boss. You don't need that job so much that it's worth your health or happiness. Everything in life is a choice. Sometimes making a change is important, while other times just knowing that you hold the power to make a different choice is enough.

4. Forgive the offender, not for their sake, but for your own sake. The act of forgiving releases your anger and provides space for rational thinking and action.

5. Be grateful for the wake-up call. Any time that someone or something grabs your attention is a good time to be grateful - even if the message is unpleasant. Something is happening that requires your conscious awareness. Perhaps you have a lesson to learn or an action to take. Perhaps it is time to remove another negative influence from your life.

6. Release any expectations that the unkind person should have acted differently. Life is not fair, and you only cause yourself unhappiness if you hold an expectation that life or any individual should be fair or kind.

Use Wind and Solar Energy to Create Electricity

It's an undeniable fact that both wind turbines, and solar power systems, exploit our two most freely available sources of energy "the wind and the sun. Gone are the days when we were restricted to using solar power for solely for warming water because nowadays, both wind power and solar energy, can be used for powering homes and businesses.

Thanks to technology continuously evolving, both solar energy and wind energy are now well within reach of the average person. In fact, the situation has improved to such an extent, that it's now possible to make your very own solar power panel or wind turbine, and it can be done for under $200.

The Pros and Cons of Solar Power

One thing is certain when it comes to solar power, there are far more reasons to be "for" it, than there are to be "against" it.

Advantages:

  • It's virtually an infinite resource
  • It doesn't pollute
  • For home use, wind turbines are cheap, easy to buy, and easy to make.
  • Solar panels almost never require maintenance
  • Excess power can also be sold to your power supplier

Disadvantages:

  • Solar power systems are unreliable when the sun is hidden behind clouds
  • Solar panels can often be very costly

The two lists above clearly show that the advantages of installing a solar power system far outweigh the disadvantages. Additionally, the savings to be had from reduced electric bills means the system soon pays for itself. Taking advantage of free renewable energy is far easier than what most people believe.

For anyone interested in solar power or wind generated power as an alternative energy resource, the market is flooded with books which can fully explain these clean and renewable forms of energy and their inevitable role in our planets future.

Many other publications are also available in order to provide clear and easy-to-follow instructions for making you own wind turbine or solar panels. Furthermore, contrary to what so many people believe, making your own DIY power plant is now well within your reach.

It is both our wish, and our opinion, that everyone should consider installing solar panels or wind turbines, in an effort to minimize the adverse impact our current fossil fuel dependency is having on our planet. Both these systems provide us as individuals, a chance to really make a difference and of course, as an added benefit, you also get to enjoy reduced electricity bills, or even no bills at all.

What Are Cooling Towers?

What exactly are cooling towers anyway? They are heat rejection devices used to extract waste heat into the air from the cooling of a water stream to a lesser temperature. They are also referred to evaporate heat rejection devices. These devices provide lower water temperatures than an air cooled or heat rejection devices.

Cooling towers are used in air conditioning, electric power generation and in various manufacturing facilities. They can be referred to both open circuit and closed circuit heat rejection equipment.

Small cooling towers are designed to handle only a few gallons of water per minute, which is supplied by small pipes. The large towers cool hundreds of thousands of gallons of water per minute. The pipes supplying the water are up to fifteen feet in diameter. These are found in large power plants.

There are several different types of cooling towers. One such type is the mechanical-draft cooling towers. They rely on power driven fans that draw or force the air through the specific tower.

Another type of cooling tower is the natural draft-cooling tower. It uses buoyancy of exhaust air rising in a chimney to provide the needed draft for cooling. Another type is the fan-assisted natural draft tower uses a mechanical draft to expand the buoyancy.

In the past, they relied on the prevailing winds to get the air drafts needed for cooling.

Cooling towers can emit a lot of noise. Things that cause the noise include the sound of water falling, the sound of large fans along with motors and drive belts as well.

Many terms are associated with water coolers. We will briefly go over a few of them. Leaching refers a loss of wood preservative chemicals caused by the washing action of flowing water through a wooden cooling tower. A plume is a stream of exhaust leaving the tower.

Blowouts are water droplets that are blown out of the cooling towers with the exhaust air that is blown out.

Alternative Energy And Wind Energy - Wind Energy Literally in the Palm of Your Hand

Wind power has historically played a big part in US culture. During the 1920s and 1930s, farms throughout the Midwest took advantage of wind power to generate electricity for their lights and electric motors. When our government started actively subsidizing the construction of fossil fuel based power plants and the associated utility lines, wind power fell into decline. Similar to energy efficiency, during the energy crisis in the 1970s, things that were old became new again. Now with growing environmental concerns being expressed globally many people are once reexamining wind power.

Wind Energy Basics

One form of energy, wind (a form of solar energy), is converted to another form of energy, electricity, using a wind turbine. As the turbine spins, electricity is generated. Similar to solar power, wind power is protected from inflation. How? Any power you generate using your own wind turbine goes against the current utility pricing. Wind power can effectively shield you from rising electricity costs.

Wind Energy in the Palm of My Hand?

As consumers show renewed interest in renewable energy sources like wind, product manufacturers are already rushing to respond. One of the most interesting consumer wind technologies is both amazingly inexpensive and amazingly small. How small? You can hold this particular wind turbine in your hand - while it's generating electricity.

The HYmini

A product of MINIWIZ Sustainable Energy Dev. LTD, the HYmini is a revolutionary new green product. While I've frequently seen many small consumer versions of solar technologies, specifically designed to power your cell phone, PDAs and MP3 players, this is the first handheld wind turbine I've encountered.

The HYmini combines a small wind turbine designed to generate power in wind speeds between 9-30 miles per hour with an internal 1200mAh lithium ion polymer battery. The HYmini maxs out it's ability to convert wind into electricity at 40 miles per hour. The battery is good for about 500 complete charge cycles. The HYmini is literally a green power station that you can hold in the palm of your hand.

The inventors of the HYmini pushed the envelope and added a few more impressive green features. To maximize the flexibility of their new device, they allowed for the HYmini battery to be externally recharged. That means in a pinch you can plug your HYmini into any USB port or conventional 100-240V wall plug and instantly start recharging.

miniSOLAR

If plugging your HYmini into your electrical outlet isn't green enough for you then consider the miniSOLAR option. miniSOLAR is an inexpensive solar panel designed to work with the HYmini. Thanks to HYmini's ability to externally recharge, you can easily add up to four miniSOLAR panels to recharge your HYmini using solar energy. Each miniSOLAR panel can add up to 140mA at 5V of recharging power. Staying with the eco-friendly theme, the MINIWIZ team houses each miniSOLAR panel in a recycled card board paper package.

HYmini Applications

HYmini is perfect for both runners and cyclists and to encourage it's use in both those markets the MINIWIZ team offers both a bicycle mount and an armband. If the wind is a little slow on a particular day then why not add some human energy to the mix. The HYmini will literally be generating electricity while you are burning through calories.

Ignoring the wind turbine for a moment, the HYmini, is also the perfect rechargeable backup battery pack for all your mobile electronics. This expands possible uses for the HYmini exponentially.

Talk To Me About Power

Thanks to some useful testing completed by MINIWIZ we have some hard facts regarding power generation for the HYmini. According to MINIWIZ using the HYmini wind turbine or the miniSOLAR panels you can capture enough energy in 20 minutes to power:

  • A MP3 Player for 40 minutes
  • A PDA for 40 minutes
  • An iPod for 30 minutes
  • A Cell Phone for 4 minutes
  • A Digital Camera for 20 pictures

To capture that much wind energy you will however need constant 19 mile per hour wind speeds. The solar panels will need direct sunlight as well. You can learn more about the HYmini and the miniSOLAR panels at the following website:

As technology advances, you can expect to see many more unique green technologies such as the HYmini. Wind power is a lost part of our culture, a part we have recently started to reconnect with and the HYmini offers consumers an inexpensive way to implement wind power in their lives today. Using devices like the HYmini can reduce disposable battery usage and waste. When batteries are improperly disposed of and end up in landfills or incinerators, they inevitably leak into our environment and eventually end up in our food chain. Take part in the new wind power revolution and reduce your battery usage, the environment will thank you for both.

Sam Greyhawk is an energy efficiency evangelist working with Cool-N-Save(tm), an Energy Star Partner, based in Huntington Beach, California.

Like the HYmini, the Cool-N-Save(tm) is another unique green technology. The Cool-N-Save(tm) is a device that improves air conditioner efficiency. It can be installed in just 10 minutes with no tools required. In the hottest months, your air conditioner can be responsible for up to 90% of your monthly electrical bill. Cool-N-Save(tm) has been scientifically proven by Tulane University to improve air conditioner efficiency by up to 30% - which translates into real monthly savings for you. Saving energy helps fight global warming and Cool-N-Save(tm) is a cost-effective way to reduce your energy use.

Solar Energy Will Be the Future For Energy Supplies

After experiencing the very high oil and gas prices last year we know we must do something to secure our energy supplies for the future. We must learn to use energy more efficiently and be secure in the knowledge that the energy source is secure and reliable.

The most secure and available form of energy is solar power. Every day the sun rises and bathes the country in warmth and energy. Our reliance on oil has been shown to be both unsustainable and unreliable whereas the sun shines every day and we can depend on that.

Solar power offers us a free energy source and it is almost an unlimited supply. All we have to do is collect it and convert it to a more usable energy such as electricity. We must discover the best ways to capture solar energy, convert it to electricity and find ways to store that energy for future use.

The technology has been around for decades now and we have failed to utilize it as much as we could have done. Solar energy will be a major business in the future providing jobs for people in our own country unlike oil which makes jobs abroad.

The economics of solar energy still favor oil but the installation cost is almost the only cost and once solar panels are installed they continue to provide almost free energy for year after year and the more energy prices rise the greater the savings will be.

Our homes and our businesses can make use of these free energy supplies to make our goods and supply our services and all the while helping our economy by reducing the cost of imports because we would no longer be dependent on imported oil.

Solar power must surely be the future and now is the time to begin the change towards a better future with clean and renewable energy from the sun.

Tim Line is a realist who can see the benefits of renewable energy supplies. Find out more on the subject of solar energy and look forward to a future of clean energy at http://www.solarfuelenergy.com

Heat Things Up With Pellet Stoves

Lower winter energy bills, heat individual rooms, and reduce the amount of waste that goes to the landfill - all at once. Sound too good to be true?

Actually, it isn't, thanks to a little something called a pellet stove. Think of it like a fireplace insert or freestanding stove - these devices typically heat individual rooms rather than the entire house (although they can do that too), so that you can turn down the thermostat. But instead of wood, they burn pellets: compressed sawdust, corn, wood shavings, and other wood waste that would normally go to the landfill.

A charming alternative to gas or electric heating, pellet stoves don't require EPA certification because they emit so little pollution. Seriously. And unlike your standard hearth, pellet stoves produce zero creosote.

Here's how they work: You pour pellets into a refillable hopper. From there, a motorized auger feeds these pellets into a burn pot, where they combust. And that generates much-needed heat.

According to home expert Don Vandervort, pellet stoves can be complicated and require occasional maintenance and regular attention, so you might be better off signing a service contract rather than trying to maintain the stove yourself. Another drawback: If you don't have a thermostat in every room, the heat from the stove might trick nearby thermostats into thinking the temperature in the area is at the set level. Nearby rooms become cold, and you end up raising your thermostat anyway. So when shopping for a pellet stove, opt for one with a built-in thermostat - this feature ensures better temperature control.

You'll also want to hop on over to Consumer Reports, where you'll find all kinds of important considerations for selecting the best stove for your heating needs. For instance, you'll want to determine fuel costs in your area and whether or not it makes sense to purchase a self-contained firebox insert or a freestanding stove. And just so you're as informed on the topic as possible, I also recommend reading the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy guide to wood and pellet heating.

Windmills Energy Source

Are you looking for ways to use free wind energy source through windmills? Energy and electricity is at an all time high today, and this is a very bad situation for our planet today since most of it comes from non renewable energy sources like fossil fuels. These sources are not infinite and will run out soon if we do not start exploring the possibility of using alternatives like renewable energy.

In this article, I will explain more about windmills energy source and how you can harness free wind power at your own home.

1. Is It Really Possible to Create Energy using Windmills at Home?

I never thought this might be possible initially as my opinion of wind mills generating electricity was huge structures that take up a lot of space. But ever since I heard about people using them to generate residential electricity, I decided to explore further and finally managed to succeed building my own too.

2. Benefits of Using Windmills to Harness Free Wind Energy Source

After completing and using the systems, I have found that it is very clean to use. Most importantly, it has cut my electric bills by more than 80%. Personally, I hope that more and more people start using renewable energy to conserve our planet and make it a more desirable place to live in.

3. How Much Energy Will the Windmills be Able to Generate?

It is typically able to support more than 50% of a household's electrical needs. It can be used in combination with a solar panel system to generate even more electricity. The amount of energy that your systems are able to generate is dependent on the wind and sunlight around your residential area as well as the design of your turbines and solar panels.

AC System Replacement - The Efficiency Consideration - Should I Repair it or Replace It

In my recent article entitled "Air Conditioning System Replacement - The Age Consideration" we recently discovered how the age of your home cooling system can be a determining factor in the decision to replace your current Air Conditioner or Heat Pump System. Now let's see how the upgrade of efficiency plays into the equation of a new Cooling system replacement.

Efficiency is the leading reason that most families replace their existing Air Conditioning systems. Let's face it, if something didn't improve, be it money savings on utility bills or comfort, no one would change out their working units. Cost savings are a serious trigger for homeowners these days and a new Air Conditioning System can prove to be an investment that pays off in a big way.

Let's take a look. As the age issue points out, an Air Conditioning System that is approaching 15 years of age, will probably only be rated at 8 or 10 SEER. SEER is the efficiency measurement and standard that all U.S. Air Conditioning Systems are given for their operating cost efficiency. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Currently, the minimum SEER that is available in the U. S. is 13 SEER, and some systems are rated as high as 21 SEER.

So what does this mean to you the homeowner? Well, let's say you currently have an 8 SEER Air Conditioner and you decide to upgrade to a 13 SEER (current minimum standard). Each numeric rise in SEER rating equates to approximately an 8% increase in efficiency. That being the case, a 40% efficiency gain is possible (13-8=58=40). This means that if your average monthly summer cooling bill is $200, you could save up to $80 per month on our utility bill or nearly $1000 per year.

A savings of $1000 per year is huge. Now how does this play into the decision to replace your current air conditioning or heat pump system? Simply do the math. Over the course of the first five years, the saving alone will more then pay for the cost of a new system. What are you waiting for?

Jay Boyd owns his own heating and air conditioning store Home Air Direct where he helps the do-it-yourselfer save money. His blog site Ask Boyd contains numerous tips and stories involving the HVAC industry.

Converting to a Solar Power Home From an Environmentally Damaging Home is Easy When You Know How!

We all are aware that the globes non-renewable natural resources are limited. Similarly, they are being depleted at an alarmingly enhanced rate. At this rate of depletion there will be little left over for our succeeding generations to utilize. Consequently, to conserve a few of these limited natural resources we had better not just curb our consumption of them, yet also supplant them with the resources that are inexhaustible.

One way of managing this is to create our own solar power home. The sun's energy comprises of unprocessed and infinite matter. Consequently, the most beneficial plan of action would be to utilize this as our energy needs increase, thus using much less of our valuable natural resources . This will not only reduce our day-to-day electrical energy costs, but also lower pollution from the environment.

All those who consider using solar power at home is a complex issue, should simply check on Google to see that it is actually quite the opposite. Whilst at the start it involves making a few simple arrangements to replace your current fossil fuel-burning heating resources that are vulnerable to depletion, to the inexhaustible energy of the sun, the transformation is actually quite simple.

Employing a conversion from your current energy-sapping set-up to a clean and efficient solar power home may be done with the assistance of solar power kits as well. These are simple to handle with very basic operating instructions attached to the package. All you are required to do is study and follow them as directed.

Energy Performance Certificates in England and Wales

There have been discussions and proposals for some time to introduce mandatory energy ratings of homes. This is now being applied across all European Union countries pursuant to the European Directive for the Energy Performance of Buildings, designed to improve property efficiency. In England and Wales, Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) were initially introduced as part of the Home Information Packs required when selling properties. With effect from 1 October 2008, this was extended to rented properties.

Landlords will now need to provide an EPC free of charge to all prospective tenants at the earliest opportunity and no later than:

  • when any written information about the building is provided in response to a request for information received from the prospective tenant, or
  • when a viewing is conducted, or
  • if neither of those occur, before entering into a contract to let.

An EPC does not have to be made available if:

  • the seller believes that the prospective tenant is unlikely to have sufficient funds to rent the property, or
  • is not genuinely interested in renting that type of property, or
  • the landlord is unlikely to be prepared to rent out the property to the prospective tenant (but be sure if relying on this, that your reason is not a discriminatory one).

EPCs, which must be obtained from an accredited energy assessor, are valid for 10 years and do not have to be re-commissioned every time the property is re let (although you may want to if you have carried out works which will improve the energy efficiency of the property). They do not have to be provided to existing tenants.

EPCs are very similar in design to the certificates provided with domestic appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines. Their purpose is to record how energy-efficient a property is as a building. The certificate will provide a rating of the property from A to G, where A is very efficient and G is very inefficient. There are two ratings, the environmental impact rating and the energy-efficiency rating. The environmental rating is a measure of a home's impact on the environment in terms of carbon dioxide (C02) emissions - the higher the rating, the less impact it has on the environment. The energy-efficiency rating is a measure of a home's overall energy efficiency. The higher the rating, the more energy-efficient the home is, and the lower the fuel bills are likely to be.

Current running costs for heating, hot water and lighting will also be shown on the certificate, together with a list of recommended energy saving improvements, which, if taken up, will mean lower energy bills for your tenants. According to Government figures it may be possible to enjoy fuel savings of up to 300 a year or more. Energy efficient homes are much more attractive to potential tenants (who may be prepared to pay a higher rent), both because of the lower running costs and because many tenants nowadays are keen to reduce their carbon footprint.

Note that there are grants available for some types of energy efficient improvement work and you may be able to claim a discount on your income tax bill under the Landlords Energy Saving Allowance.

Failure to provide an EPC is punishable by a penalty charge notice, issued by Trading Standards, carrying a fine of 200.

Landlords seeking advice on EPCs and other energy efficiency matters, can contact the Energy Saving Trust advice centres, telephone 0800 512 012. They are open from 09:00 - 17:00 Monday to Friday. You can find an Energy Assessor online at www.hcrregister.com.

Conservation Suggestions to Destination Clubs From the Veras Group

"Greening" businesses have been a popular topic for many years, and a recent conversation on the DestinationClubForums led us to compile some of those suggestions into an article on destination clubs and the environment.

Visit The Veras Group website and you see two short words at the bottom of every page: "Wind Powered." Much like many of our destination club partners, The Veras Group strives to limit our impact on the environment and designed and power our website using local wind power.

Quintess, Leading Residences of the World absorbs the costs of the energy consumption for each of their properties, factoring in a plethora of factors.

Electricity consumed on a month to month basis for each home

Abercrombie & Kent planted a tree for every client that traveled in 2007, totaling over 30,000 new trees. Select Abercrombie & Kent journeys even allow clients to personally help save the Earth while they travel. We are eagerly looking forward to learning more about how the new Abercrombie & Kent Residence Club will continue and further these initiatives in the future.

With the help of our friends at DestinationClubForums, we have created a short list of ways destination clubs can help the environment.

Provide An Easy Way To Recycle While Traveling

The easiest and one of the most effective tools available to destination clubs and their members, providing recycling bins in each home can vastly reduce the amount of waste produced during a member's trip. High Country Club has already begun offering this service to their members.

Use Lower Wattage Bulbs/Energy Efficient Light Bulbs

If every American home replaced one light bulb with an Energy Star qualified bulb, enough energy would be saved to light more than 3,000,000 homes for a year and prevent the greenhouse gases equivalent to 800,000 cars. For the destination club finance departments, each bulb saves an average of approximately $30 over its lifetime. The average home has approximately 45 light bulbs each. Now with over 750 total homes, the industry could save over $1,000,000 for this simple, environmentally friendly fix.

Use Energy Efficient, Low Water Use Appliances

Many appliances, including dishwashers, washers and dryers, are now readily available and use less than half of the energy and water consumption used by their counterparts.
Have High Efficiency Heating and Cooling Systems

Between the warm climates of each club's beach properties and the cold ski properties, 69% of the industry's homes (21% in alpine destinations and 48% in beach locations) are in climates requiring either heating or cooling systems. Traditionally, 45 percent of most family's utility bill goes towards heating and cooling. As a nation, the United States emits 150 million tons of carbon dioxide each year from these systems. Just like light bulbs and appliances, heating and cooling units are quickly becoming more cost effective and energy saving options, but until then, there are many smaller fixes that can help lower heating and cooling costs.

Furnace Maintenance

Prior to the furnace being turned on each year, The Veras Group suggests that a technician come and service the unit. This can save over $400 each year in heating costs. In addition, furnace filters should be routinely changed. Not only are there health ramifications for dirty furnace filters, but a clean filter can save over $60 in heating bills and maximize the heating unit's productivity.

Home Furnishings

Destination club homes are built for large parties. Couches and chairs often are placed in areas to maximize seating space, not considering air flow. Make sure that air vents are exposed and not covered by beds, couches and other furniture throughout the house. For another simple fix, pull couches and chairs slightly away from exterior walls when you are traveling to ski properties. Exterior walls are the coldest areas of the home and positioning seating away from the walls keeps you more comfortable. Likewise, large furniture pieces such as entertainment centers and bookcases should be positioned next to exterior walls to provide for greater insulation.

Reverse The Spin of Ceiling Fans During Winter

Most fans have a toggle switch that changes the direction of the blades rotation. In winter, rotating the blades so they rotate clockwise will gather the warm air that collects near the ceiling and pull it down into the heart of the room. Set the fan at its lowest level and you won't even know it's on.

Buy and Build Responsibly

As destination clubs continue to build their presence in the luxury travel industry, they gain more buying power in resort areas. Not only can destination clubs seek out these luxury resorts but can using their own pull in current resorts and push for increased eco-friendly initiatives.
Secure Agreements with Rental Car Companies Offering Hybrids

Between Enterprise, Hertz and Avis, there are over 10,000 hybrid vehicles available for rental throughout the United States. Destination clubs can secure and expand partnerships with other luxury travel accommodations and airlines. Working with car rental agencies to acquire preferred rates on hybrid vehicles to members is yet another way that clubs can help satisfy their members.

Limit The Number of Lights Used For Guest Arrival

Destination clubs all want to make strong impressions on their members. To welcome members to a home, clubs typically turn on all the lights prior to a member's arrival. Clubs can limit the number of lights turned on before members arrive, and still make a great impression.

Alternative Power Sources

Wind, solar and hydropower are all less polluting than coal energy. We advocate for more destination clubs to work these alternative energy sources into both new and existing homes, and also building/purchasing in areas where alternative energy sources are readily available.

Concierge Services

Training the on-site concierges how to complete the above mentioned items like changing furnace filters and to limit light consumption prior to a member arrival will do wonders in the long run. Not only that, but hiring knowledgeable local hosts who can suggest environmentally friendly options can also greatly impact the amount of energy spent while traveling.

Margaret Mead said "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtfully committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Destination clubs and destination club members alike have begun to dedicate more time to energy conservation. The Veras Group applauds these initiatives and looks forward to assisting clubs and club members in any way possible to further these goals.
